This is a wonderful children’s book about Stanley the stork who is upset when his parents divorce and his father goes to live in a separate nest. Stanley deals with guilt, frustration, and anger as he comes to terms with having two nests. Comforting words from his parents and his teacher help Stanley realize that maybe two nests will work out after all. This divorce story is for very young children who are just beginning to deal with their parents’ separation. Beautiful illustrations comfort and reassure youngsters through this challenging time. Divorce is never easy, especially when children are involved. Often, the children end up feeling responsible for the break-up, even though they are not. Clarke’s presentation of loving parents helps soften the blow of one family’s divorce and assures young Stanley Stork that the dissolusion of his parents marriage is not his fault. Kennedy’s watercolor illustrations enhance the emotions felt throughout the story. This book is a superb choice for a family in the midst of divorce, as well as a welcome addition to any library.
